Calendar of Upcoming Events
(The dates listed below are subject to change as need be by the Bureau)
This is the month that the Tax Collectors start to turn in the unpaid taxes. We cannot take payments on the taxes that have not been turned over to the bureau. Once a district has been turned over and balanced, we will then begin taking payments on those taxes. Please feel free to call and see if your district is balanced before making a trip to the courthouse.
There is a $15.00 fee per tax turned in.
Example: County, Municipality, and School would be $45.00
Reminder Letters will be sent out advising of the taxes that have been turned over by the tax collectors, or if there are any outstanding balances for previous years taxes. (There is a $3.50 fee that is associated with this process.)
This month we will have the Sheriffs Department begin service on any Lien holders or parties of interest in the properties that we have going to the Judicial Sale in June. (The associated cost for this service will be added to each property going to the Sale.)
Notice of Return & Claim mailer will be sent out by certified Mail on the new taxes that were turned over in January. YOU MUST PICK UP THIS MAILER! If you do not sign and pick up this mailer, which requires a signature, by Law, it MUST be posted on the property. This means that someone WILL come to the property and tape the notice to your house.
The fee associated and applied with the mailer is $7.00 per mailer.
The fee associated with the Posting Notice is $25.00 per property.
We will no longer accept any personal or business checks for any property that is 2 or more years delinquent on taxes. You will either have to pay by cash, Certified Check or Money Order in order to stop the Judicial Sale.
A $25.00 Prep of Sale Fee will be added to all Properties with 2 or more years delinquent taxes that are going to Upset Sale in September.
Notice of Sale mailers will be sent out by certified, restricted delivery to all owners on the property.
The fee associated and applied with this mailer is $11.00 per mailer.
Ex: If there are two parties listed as property owners, the fee will be $22.00.
This month an Ad will run in the Altoona Mirror, the Tyrone Daily Harold, as well as the Blair County Legal Bulletin regarding the Petition for Writ of Scire Facias. The ad will run once a week for 3 weeks and then a hearing will be held after the 3 ads. This is regarding anyone that we could not get personal service on for the properties that will be in the Judicial Sale in June. (The fee for this ad will be divided evenly between the parcels affected by the ad.)
Posting Notices will Start this Month
Posting Notices will be printed for all Notice of Return & Claims that were NOT picked up.
(These were sent out by certified mail in March)

Posting Notices for all properties going to Upset Sale in September will be printed and the appointed posting company will begin posting.
(If you pay after the posting company has the notice, we cannot guarantee that we can stop the posting)

July 1st is the last (guaranteed) day for a homeowner to pay their property taxes that are 2 or more years delinquent, to avoid their name being advertised in the Newspaper for the Upset Sale. This ad will run in the Altoona Mirror, The Tyrone Daily Harold and the Legal Bulletin one time in August.
Please be aware that if the ad list is printed and sent to the Newspapers IT WILL NOT BE CHANGED FOR ANY REASON. This means that if you pay the day after the list is done your name WILL NOT come out of the paper.
The fee associated and applied for this ad is $100.00 per property.
Newspaper Ad list of properties for sale by Upset Sale will run in the Altoona Mirror, The Tyrone Daily Harold and the Blair County Legal Bulletin.
ONCE THIS AD IS PREPARED AND SENT TO THE LISTED PAPERS IT WILL NOT BE ADJUSTED IN ANY WAY. IF YOU PAY AFTER THE REQUIRED DATE YOUR NAME WILL STILL APPEAR IN THE PAPER.
A Consolidated Return will be filed in regards to the Upset Sale with a Confirmation Nisi Ad to run in the newspaper after the Order is signed.
The fee associated with this will be divided and added to each property listed in the ad.

Procedures and practices for the Blair County Tax Claim Bureau Office:
- As of April 1st of every year - No personal checks will be accepted as payment on any property that is 2 or more year’s delinquent in real estate taxes. Only cash, money orders and certified checks will be accepted.
- If you are only 1 year delinquent in real estate taxes, you may use a personal check for payment until April 1st of the following year.
- The office will continue to accept one-time installment payment plans for qualified delinquent taxpayers who have not defaulted on prior agreements.
